Jesse's Bday & the Cake-off

I'm so far behind on my blog!! I've got a lot of catching up to do! Better late than never, I guess. These pictures are from when we celebrated Jesse's birthday with his family. My brother-in-law Rob has a bday only a few days apart from Jesse so we always celebrate them together. And, Teri (J's little sis) and I always have a friendly little competion involving cakes. I try to out-do each other and then let the family decide which cake was better. We've both won and lost but mostly it seems to be a tie. This year, however, she lost big time. Only because she burned her little cheesecake till it had a nice blackened crust! I think it probably might have won - it was the Carnegie Deli recipe. I made a triple layer lemon cake with lemon curd filling and lemon cream cheese frosting. Sounds great, right? It was mostly just ok.

Anyhow, here's Teri and I with our mostly eaten cakes.

Jesse and his dad with the homemade strawberry ice cream. YUM

The families.

Birthday boys!!! (notice the black ring around Teri's cheesecake - that's not the pan!!)

Anyhow, Happy Birthday Jesse and Rob!!!

Didn't I tell you it's supposed to get burned like that? Duh.... :)

I'm pretty sure J and my dad won with their ice cream. Yum!

I liked the dark ring -- it had a certain appeal.......

Holy cow, a triple layer cake?! If Betty Crocker doesn't have a mix for that, then it will never be made by me. Good for you for giving it a whirl. I bet it was great! Now that I know you know how to make fancy cakes, I'll be expecting something extra special for the big 3-0...(doh!)
