Bye Bye Helmet!

So, we are officially done with the helmet!!! Avie wore it for 7.5 weeks and we shed no tears when it was time to say goodbye! We took her into see the Plastic Surgeon who oversaw the process and he said something to this effect: 'I think she's pretty much done. Her head looks great and if there are any abnormalities remaining they will be completely covered up once her hair grows in. That being said, if it was my daughter I'd leave it on for another 2-4 weeks. Just to be safe.' So, we didn't really know what to do. We left it on for another week and a half and then we had her 9 month check up with her pediatrician. I told him the whole story and then asked what he thought about her head. He does, after all, see a whole lot of baby heads! He said something like this: 'If it was my kid I'd throw that darn helmet in the closet right now and never think about it again. Her head looks great and any additional help you'd get from more weeks of wear would be so minimal that you wouldn't even be able to notice it.' So, see ya later helmet. The funny thing is that she seriously has been SO much happier since we took it off. I can really tell a difference. Maybe the helmet was bugging her a little bit more than I thought it was. Either way, we are glad we did it and I think her head looks much better now. I might be dreaming, but hopefully she'll thank us for this one day!!

nice and round!!!

yeah! I know the feeling! I'm so happy for Ava that it is over. Her head looks good...now that you've been through it, though, don't you notice other babies heads a lot more-good or bad?!

That is so cool. I bet it felt like forever but for me it seems like you just had her start wearing it. Her head looks great in the pics. I'm glad she's a happy baby! Yay for you guys!
